San Clemente Celebrates 58th Street Fiesta

Del Mar turned into a bazaar of crafts, musicians, animals and vendors Sunday.

From bounce houses to barbecue, incense burners to ice cream, there was something for just about everyone at San Clemente's 58th annual Street Fiesta on Sunday.

Del Mar and portions of Ola Vista Way were blocked off so pedestrians could wander the colorful booths, inhale the aromas and listen to music on three stages.

Some snapshots from the event:

• Dare to Share the Knowledge's bohemain-style booth offered incense burners, purses, face-painting--and a cause. "I make all of my jewelry," vendor Kara Fuentes said. "Our mission is to help stop sex trafficking in Africa and Thailand with our proceeds."

• The stage at the corner of El Camino Real and Del Mar showcased bands, an ice cream eating contest and Hula Hoop competitions.

• Food booths tempted passers-by with everything from cake to steak. "This is our 10th year here," said Wholly Smoke vendor Guy Varriano. "We use a special porterhouse rub from Billy's Deli."

• A "crushable hats" booth peddled stacks of hats made from Florida sea grass.

• Palm Springs artist Charles Perkins offered wiry art. "My pieces were all handmade using wire as our primary medium," he explained. "My wife and I have been creating art together for over 12 years. Whatever our imaginations come up with, we go with it."
